Hello Class of 2023!
We are grateful that you and your families will be able to enjoy a normal, in-person graduation celebration. Plans are underway for the senior celebration and graduation festivities! As the co-chairs of the Senior Celebration and Project Graduation Committee, our goals are to work closely with FHS to follow the traditions of past Falmouth graduating classes, streamline communications and processes for senior families, cultivate a community of volunteers, celebrate our seniors, and ensure they are safe on graduation night.
Falmouth High School plans the graduation ceremony, Candlelight, senior banquet and other school sponsored events. Senior Week, Senior Breakfast, and Project Graduation are planned by the Senior Celebration/Project Graduation Committee. The committee works closely with the Class of 2023 advisors to ensure all the events and festivities run smoothly. Senior Week involves many fun traditions to celebrate our seniors the week leading up to graduation. Project Graduation takes place immediately following graduation to provide a safe environment for our seniors on their graduation night. Project Graduation started in 1979 after the Oxford Hills area in Maine experienced seven alcohol and other drug-related teen deaths during the commencement season. As a result of this tragedy, the schools and communities in the Oxford Hills area began offering their students an alternative to the traditional graduation night drinking and driving temptations that all too often end in tragedy. By 1986, Project Graduation activities were held in all 50 states.
Falmouth High School’s Project Graduation is a chemical free celebration for all graduating seniors. The celebration is at a different location every year and is kept a secret from the graduates until the last minute. The event will begin immediately following the graduation ceremony on Sunday, June 4, 2023. It is a night filled with planned activities and is fully chaperoned by volunteer teachers and administrators.
Senior Week and Project Graduation are 100% self-funded without financial support from FHS. The majority of money is raised by parents and through the generosity of businesses in the Falmouth and Greater Portland areas.
We hope that you will join us and support the Class of 2023 by volunteering and/or making a financial contribution. We are extremely grateful for your support as we celebrate our seniors as they cross this important and exciting milestone.
Sincerely,
Class of 2023 Senior Celebration/Project Graduation Committee
